Soothing Mama After-birth Necessities for Mom

Welcome to Soothing Mama Birth Services. I created Soothing Mama in order to provide women and families with comprehensive birth services; from prenatal education and counseling, to labor and postpartum support, and after-birth healing products. I feel blessed to be able to work with pregnant and parenting women as I believe childbirth is a truly transformative time. My son was born in September 2007 and this journey has changed me as a woman and greatly influenced my work.

I became interested in birth several years ago when I began hearing birth stories from women around me. Although these women were grateful they had healthy babies, it seemed that something was missing or taken away from their birth experience. I began to learn that the culture of birth in the US had unfortunately, in many cases, silenced women’s innate knowledge to birth. During this time, one of my close friends became pregnant and I bought her the book, “Birthing from Within” by Pam England. I had never heard of this book or philosophy, but it proved to change the way I looked at birth and my power as a woman. Soon after that I became trained through DONA as a labor Doula and as a “Birthing from Within” Childbirth Preparation Mentor. I now provide Doula services and Birthing from Within Classes at Premium Birth Services and Best Start Birth Center.

I also have my Masters Degree in Education with a Concentration in Counseling, and have worked many years with women, teens, and families. My experience includes working with homeless drug addicted youth in Nicaragua, Tijuana, and San Diego; working as a case manager and crisis counselor at a Domestic Violence Shelter; working with at risk youth and families in many settings and areas for two local non-profits; and working with pregnant and parenting teens who are using drugs. I enjoy combining my Counseling Services with my “birth work” and work with pregnant and parenting women and teens as they empower themselves to find their strength, power, and healing.
